Welcome to La Crescenta
La Crescenta-Montrose, often shortened to just La Crescenta, is an unincorporated Los Angeles County community nestled between the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, with a portion of the community spilling over into neighboring Glendale. From this central location, neither Pasadena nor downtown Los Angeles are more than a 30-minute drive away.
Despite the inviting accessibility, La Crescenta residents enjoy a laidback suburban vibe, with the surrounding mountains adding to the healing sense of calm. In fact, the community was originally intended as a place of relaxation and rehabilitation. In the late 1800s, the affluent doctor Benjamin Brigg established a sanitarium in La Crescenta based on his belief in the health-promoting qualities of the warm, dry valley air.
The now-closed sanitariums of Kimball and Rockhaven once admitted a number of Hollywood stars throughout the 20th Century. During this time wealthy families also flocked to the region for its perfect balance of countryside calm and big-city access.
La Crescenta is nestled next to the sprawling Angeles National Forest, with miles of hiking and mountain biking trails winding through its 655,387 acres of unblemished nature.
La Crescenta residents enjoy a community-orientated lifestyle with the friendliness and intimacy of a small town. The charming Main Street provides a selection of local businesses as well as a mix of shops and restaurants at the open-air Montrose Shopping Park. Events are held at Montrose Shoppping Park throughout the year, from family-friendly Halloween and Harvest Markets, to film festivals and a lively Oktoberfest celebration.
Local schools are exceptional, and residents also enjoy a regular farmer’s market.
